Thanks a Lot, Ricky 💪 (A Lesson in Strength at Any Age) The other day I was in the gym doing one...
Be Different
I was listening to a podcast recently where a founder and CEO shared a message he often repeats with his team.
“We can’t be the best if we’re the same. Be different.”
That idea comes up again and again when you listen to leaders behind some of the most successful companies in the world. They are not obsessed with copying others. They do not try to win by doing the same thing slightly better. Instead, they focus on being different and on constantly iterating rather than settling.
It is a mindset we talk about internally, but it also applies directly to something much more personal.
Your health.
Doing the Same Thing Only Works If You Are Happy With the Result
When it comes to health and wellness, most people do not struggle because they do not care. They struggle because they feel stuck.
Stuck in pain.
Stuck with low energy.
Stuck at the same weight.
Stuck in the same habits.
Stuck making effort without seeing meaningful change.
And yet, they keep doing the same things.
That approach only works if you are already happy with where you are.
If you like how you feel, how you move, how you perform, and how consistent your habits are, keep going.
But if you do not, doing more of the same is rarely the answer.
“Better” Is Not the Goal. Different Is.
We often think improvement means trying harder. More discipline. More motivation. More willpower.
In reality, progress usually comes from doing something different, not just doing the same thing with more effort.
Different might mean training in a new way instead of repeating the same workouts.
Different might mean addressing recovery instead of pushing through fatigue.
Different might mean looking at nutrition habits rather than just exercise.
Different might mean finally dealing with lingering issues instead of working around them.
Different might mean changing the structure of your week instead of blaming yourself for inconsistency.
Health and wellness are not about being better than someone else. They are about becoming a better version of yourself, and that requires change.
A Simple Question That Drives Real Change
Here is a framework that applies to almost every area of health.
What am I doing right now, and am I happy with the result?
If the answer is yes, stay the course.
If the answer is no, the next step is not judgment or frustration. The next step is experimentation.
Be different.
Iteration Is Not Failure
One of the biggest misconceptions about health is that there is one perfect plan. One right answer. One program that works for everyone.
That is not how real progress happens.
Progress is built through iteration.
You try something new.
You see how your body responds.
You keep what works.
You change what does not.
Sometimes what you try will actually be worse than what you were doing before.
That is not failure.
That is feedback.
You stop.
You adjust.
You move forward with better information.
This process is how meaningful, long-term change is made, whether the goal is feeling better, getting stronger, losing weight, moving without pain, or building habits that last.
Why Forward Motion Matters More Than Perfection
Standing still often feels safe, but it is one of the biggest barriers to progress.
Trying something different, even imperfectly, keeps you moving forward. It creates momentum. It builds awareness. It helps you understand your body, your habits, and your needs more clearly.
That is how lasting health is built. Not through extremes or perfection, but through thoughtful adjustments over time.
Be Different So You Can Become Your Best
This idea is not about comparison.
It is not about being the best in the room.
It is not about chasing extremes.
It is about honesty.
It is about curiosity.
It is about being willing to change when what you are doing is not working.
If you want something different than what you have right now, you need to do something different than what you are doing right now.
That is true for the most successful companies in the world.
And it is just as true for your health journey.
Be different.
