"What's That Like?"

We all have those little inside jokes with our friends — the ones that start from something random and end up sticking around for years. For me, one of those comes from a funny story involving my friend Sarah and me. I won’t get into the full details (because my wife said I shouldn't), but it started one day when we saw someone walking on the beach. This person had a very distinct look, and Sarah just looked over and said, “Hmm…What's that like?” 

It became one of those moments that stay with you forever. Ever since, “What’s that like?” has turned into a running joke between us — something we say whenever we see someone doing or being something we admire, envy, or find interesting.

When someone’s effortlessly jogging or moving like we can't — “What’s that like?”
When someone buys eggs in this economy — “What’s that like?”
When someone easily drops 10 pounds — “What’s that like?”

It’s lighthearted, but there’s truth buried in it. Because sometimes, when we say “What’s that like?”, what we’re really saying is: I want that, but I don’t think I can get there.
