Last weekend, Whole Health Solutions & Sports Performance held our 1st Annual Benjamin Hill Fun Run, and what started as a side conversation between Peter and me turned into a full-blown event! 🎉
Despite the cold, rainy weather, 10 people showed up on a Sunday morning to run up and down an old ski hill in Shirley, MA. And guess what? We had fun, we pushed ourselves, and we learned a lot. Here are my takeaways:
- Accountability:
I’ll admit, I didn’t want to go when I woke up that morning. My foot hurt (I dropped a bar on it the day before), it was cold and rainy, and my son had a hockey game an hour away. But accountability got me there. Being accountable to Peter, my wife, Sarah (who I knew would be upset if I didn’t show up), and everyone who came out pushed me to show up. Accountability is a powerful motivator! 💪
- Community:
Doing hard things is always easier with friends and family. Who really wants to run up an old ski hill? 😂 But doing something challenging is made better when you're surrounded by your people. That morning was tough, but it was also a lot of fun because we shared it together. ❤️👥
- Humans Do Stupid Things:
I always say, “Humans do stupid things.” This was definitely one of those moments. But you know what? We had fun, built a stronger community, and pushed ourselves to grow. So maybe doing “dumb” things is another way to Be Better Every Day! 💥
- The Stories We Tell Ourselves:
Peter and I often discuss how we can all convince ourselves not to show up. There are a million reasons not to. But ask yourself: Is the story you're telling yourself really true? Can you rewrite it to push yourself to be there, even when you don’t want to? 🤔 It's a powerful thought experiment.
To everyone who showed up: THANK YOU! 🙏 It was difficult and a little ridiculous, but it was a lot of fun, and we are grateful to have shared the experience with you. We hope to see all of you again next year!
