In this job, you always continue learning. We are always learning new skills, research, techniques, and more. The field constantly evolves, and we must keep up or get left behind. But sometimes, the lessons we learn from our clients matter the most.
A few weeks ago, I had a client request all of her appointments be at 5:30 in the morning. This by itself is common. This request was unique because it came from a senior in high school. Those of you who can remember your teenage years or have raised teenagers know that getting a teenager up at a 5:30 am appointment is impossible. I for sure would not want to be around for that! After confirming that this was what she wanted, we booked all her visits for 5:30 am.
The following week rolled around. I got up nice and early and arrived at Whole Health Solutions & Sports Performance at 5:23 a.m. This client, a senior in high school, was already in the parking lot waiting for me. As we exited the car, she happily said, “Good morning, Gary,” to which I replied, “You are not normal.”
What she said next, and a few minutes later, stuck with me and is an excellent message for our clients. She said, “The first few minutes after I open my eyes is hard, but once I get out of bed, it’s easy.” A few minutes later, as part of our conversation, she said, “I just tell myself I can do hard things, even at 5:30 in the morning.”
Wow!
Incredibly, anyone can have this mindset; it is a lesson for all of us. I am 47 years old, and on that day, I learned a great lesson from a teenager. We all here at Whole Health Solutions & Sports Performance want to pass on this lesson to our clients. You can all do hard things, even at 5:30 in the morning! And we are here to help you do that!
